TRACK 1
FIRST READING Job 42.1-6, 10-17
A reading from the book of Job.
1 Job
answered the LORD:
2 'I
know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours
can be thwarted.
3 "Who
is this that hides counsel without knowledge?" Therefore
I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful
for me, which I did not know.
4 "Hear,
and I will speak; I will question you, and you declare to me."
5 I
had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees
you;
6 therefore
I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
10 And
the LORD restored the fortunes of Job when he had prayed for his
friends; and the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
11 Then
there came to him all his brothers and sisters and all who had
known him before, and they ate bread with him in his house; they
showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil that the
LORD had brought upon him; and each of them gave him a piece of
money and a gold ring.
12 The
LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; and
he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand
yoke of oxen, and a thousand donkeys.
13 He
also had seven sons and three daughters.
14 He
named the first Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch.
15 In
all the land there were no women so beautiful as Job's daughters;
and their father gave them an inheritance along with their brothers.
16 After
this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children,
and his children's children, four generations.
17 And
Job died, old and full of days.
PSALM Psalm 34.1-8, 19-22
RR I sought the Lord, and he answered me[and delivered me out
of all my terror].
1 I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall ever be in my mouth.
2 I
will glory in the Lord; let the humble hear and rejoice.
3 Proclaim
with me the greatness of the Lord; let us exalt his name together.
RR
4 I
sought the Lord and he answered me and delivered me out of all
my terror.
5 Look
upon him and be radiant, and let not your faces be ashamed. RR
6 I
called in my affliction and the Lord heard me and saved me from
all my troubles.
7 The
angel of the Lord encompasses those who fear him, and he will
deliver them. RR
8 Taste
and see that the Lord is good; happy are they who trust in him!
19 Many
are the troubles of the righteous, but the Lord will deliver him
out of them all. RR
20 He
will keep safe all his bones; not one of them shall be broken.
21 Evil
shall slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be
punished.
22 The
Lord ransoms the life of his servants, and none will be punished
who trust in him. RR
Or TRACK 2
FIRST READING Jeremiah 31.7-9
A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah.
7 Thus
says the LORD: Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts
for the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say,
'Save, O LORD, your people, the remnant of Israel.'
8 See,
I am going to bring them from the land of the north, and gather
them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind
and the lame, those with child and those in labour, together;
a great company, they shall return here.
9 With
weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them
back, I will let them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path
in which they shall not stumble; for I have become a father to
Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.
PSALM Psalm 126
RR The Lord has done great things for us [and we are glad].
1 When the Lord restored the fortunes
of Zion, then were we like those who dream.
2 Then
was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts
of joy. RR
3 Then
they said among the nations, 'The Lord has done great things for
them.'
4 The
Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad indeed. RR
5 Restore
our fortunes, O Lord, like the watercourses of the Negev.
6 Those
who sowed with tears will reap with songs of joy.
7 Those
who go out weeping, carrying the seed, will come again with joy,
shouldering their sheaves. RR
SECOND READING Hebrews 7.23-28
A reading from the letter to the Hebrews.
23 The
former priests were many in number, because they were prevented
by death from continuing in office;
24 but
he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues for
ever.
25 Consequently
he is able for all time to save those who approach God through
him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
26 For
it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless,
undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.
27 Unlike
the other high priests, he has no need to offer sacrifices day
after day, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people;
this he did once for all when he offered himself.
28 For
the law appoints as high priests those who are subject to weakness,
but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints
a Son who has been made perfect for ever.
GOSPEL Mark 10.46b-52
Hear the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark.
46 As
Jesus and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho,
Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the
roadside.
47 When
he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out
and say, 'Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!'
48 Many
sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly,
'Son of David, have mercy on me!'
49 Jesus
stood still and said, 'Call him here.' And they called the blind
man, saying to him, 'Take heart; get up, he is calling you.'
50 So
throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus.
51 Then
Jesus said to him, 'What do you want me to do for you?' The blind
man said to him, 'My teacher, let me see again.'
52 Jesus
said to him, 'Go; your faith has made you well.' Immediately he
regained his sight and followed him on the way.

BIBLE SUNDAY YEAR B
FIRST READING Isaiah 55.1-11
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
The LORD says this:
1 Everyone
who thirsts, come to the waters; and you that have no money, come,
buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without
price.
2 Why
do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your
labour for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me,
and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.
3 Incline
your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. I will
make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love
for David.
4 See,
I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for
the peoples.
5 See,
you shall call nations that you do not know, and nations that
do not know you shall run to you, because of the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.
6 Seek
the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near;
7 let
the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts;
let them return to the LORD, that he may have mercy on them, and
to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For
my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways,
says the LORD.
9 For
as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher
than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For
as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return
there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth
and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 so
shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return
to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and
succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
PSALM Psalm 19.7-14
RR The law of the Lord is perfect and revives the soul.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect
and revives the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure and gives
wisdom to the innocent.
8 The
statutes of the Lord are just and rejoice the heart; the commandment
of the Lord is clear and gives light to the eyes. RR
9 The
fear of the Lord is clean and endures for ever; the judgements
of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More
to be desired are they than gold, more than much fine gold, sweeter
far than honey, than honey in the comb. RR
11 By
them also is your servant enlightened, and in keeping them there
is great reward.
12 Who
can tell how often he offends? Cleanse me from my secret faults.
13 Above
all, keep your servant from presumptuous sins; let them not get
dominion over me; then shall I be whole and sound, and innocent
of a great offence. RR
14 Let
the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable
in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. RR
SECOND READING 2 Timothy 3.14 - 4.5
A reading from the second letter of Paul to Timothy.
14 Continue
in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom
you learned it,
15 and
how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are
able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
16 All
scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof,
for correction, and for training in righteousness,
17 so
that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for
every good work.
1 In
the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living
and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I
solemnly urge you:
2 proclaim
the message; be persistent whether the time is favourable or unfavourable;
convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching.
3 For
the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine,
but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers
to suit their own desires,
4 and
will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to
myths.
5 As
for you, always be sober, endure suffering, do the work of an
evangelist, carry out your ministry fully.
GOSPEL John 5.36-47
Hear the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.
Jesus said to the Jews:
36 'I
have a testimony greater than John's. The works that the Father
has given me to complete, the very works that I am doing, testify
on my behalf that the Father has sent me.
37 And
the Father who sent me has himself testified on my behalf. You
have never heard his voice or seen his form,
38 and
you do not have his word abiding in you, because you do not believe
him whom he has sent.
39 You
search the scriptures because you think that in them you have
eternal life; and it is they that testify on my behalf.
40 Yet
you refuse to come to me to have life.
41 I
do not accept glory from human beings.
42 But
I know that you do not have the love of God in you.
43 I
have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; if another
comes in his own name, you will accept him.
44 How
can you believe when you accept glory from one another and do
not seek the glory that comes from the one who alone is God?
45 Do
not think that I will accuse you before the Father; your accuser
is Moses, on whom you have set your hope.
46 If
you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
47 But
if you do not believe what he wrote, how will you believe what
I say?'
